Lefkas International Folklore Festival, Greece August
(annual)
Folk dance groups from Greece as well as from a host of
worldwide destinations will be showing off their cultural
heritage during the festival. The island has an ancient
history: the legendary poetess Sappho (circa 600 BC) is
supposed to have thrown herself from the cliffs; ruins
of a temple to Apollo can be seen on the southernmost
tip of the island. It is therefore appropriate that the
island should host a festival which looks back to traditions,
not just from Greece, but from all over the world.
