Crystal goes back to school

Crystal Holidays, the No.1 ski tour operator in the UK, is introducing a new generation of Schools Ski programmes full of challenges and adventures to meet the expectations of today’s schoolchildren.

Crystal started school ski trips 25 years ago, but after a gap of a few years, has decided to re-introduce a new concept of school trips where the emphasis is on experience and activity as much as travelling to new destinations.

The Finland Arctic Adventure week is typical of the exciting new generation of school trips on offer. Held from February to the end of April, children will learn arctic survival skills, including making a fire, ice fishing and building an igloo. The trip includes a visit to a reindeer farm; a husky ride; ice skating and snow shoe hiking; a tour of the ‘Arktikum’ (Arctic research centre and museum); building their own snow sculptures and taking part in the Arctic Snow Fun Games.

Schools can build onto a week on the slopes city visits which include New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, Montreal, Toronto and Barcelona. Or they can add trips to world-renowned theme parks and the West Edmonton Mall in Canada, one of the largest entertainment and shopping centres.

The Crystal Schools Ski Programme 2007/8 covers 11 countries. There are 16 resorts in North America and 47 in Europe (11 resorts in Austria, 16 in France, five in Switzerland, eight in Italy, two in both Andorra and Spain; and one in Bulgaria, Slovenia and Finland), the widest choice in school ski travel in the UK.

Apart from excellent early booking discounts, free places, familiarisation and inspection trips, 24 hour support, we also offer:

  • free ski /snowboard helmets (in selected resorts);
  • free ski essentials packs (Velcro ski binder, sun cream, lip balm,  hand warmer and a retractable lift pass holder);
  • a Helly Hansen ski jacket for the first 100 party leaders booking a  skiing trip;
  • free or discounted UK skiing lessons at a dry or indoor ski slope in  your region.

Our twelve regional travel advisors who are based around the UK are available to visit the schools to discuss the travel requirements and offer help and support.

All of our tours will be accompanied by a Crystal representative who will be there to co-ordinate your tour and ensure that everything runs smoothly.

Crystal is also launching a Summer School brochure. For summer 2007 we not only offer a bespoke custom-made service to almost any destination in the world, but also a selection of educational tours. These include the cities of Rome, Pompeii, Paris and Berlin as well as historical sites such as WWI and WWII Battlefields.

We have chosen destinations that will bring science, nature, art, history and culture to life, and this rich and varied environment will provide a range of learning opportunities for students, whether in full time education of even further education. We can offer visits to language schools throughout Europe, Moorish Spain and the Swiss, Austrian and Italian Alps, which we can tailor exactly for your needs.

Crystal is a full member of the Schools Travel Forum (STF) which is endorsed by the Outdoor Education Advisers Panel and the forum’s principles have the support of the NUT and the NASUWT. Crystal is also a fully bonded member of ABTA, ATOL and is also IATA licensed.

Prices for school ski visits by coach are from 480 per person including local pick up from school, 6 nights full board accommodation plus evening meal on arrival, 6 day lift pass, 6 day equipment hire, 4 hrs lessons per day, service of a Crystal Schools representative, daily transfers to the slopes (if appropriate), availability of coach for activities after skiing.
