Crystal Summer introduces 19 new beach destinations

Crystal redefine their summer holidays

Following extensive customer research, Crystal Holidays decided to redefine their summer proposition with the objective of creating holidays that are designed to attract a wider audience of holidaymakers.

The new brochure, launched today, reflects this review and offers 19 new beach destinations in Greece, Croatia, Spain, Portugal and Italy, an expanded Finest hotels and apartments section as well as short breaks to Italy and the Algarve.

New on the Algarve is Galé, a small, quiet town with a beautiful, sandy beach and a golf course; Tavira, an attractive riverside town with plenty of history and great food; Lagos townoverlooking the harbour with a maze of streets filled with excellent fish restaurants and café bars, which come alive as the sun goes down. Price from £329 including flights, private transfers, 3 nights b&b.

On Mallorca, new are Puerto Sóller, a village in a bay on the north-west coast, surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery; Cala d’Or, a chic resort built up from a traditional fishing village. Price from £629 for a week’s b&b and car hire.

In Greece, we have added the contrasting towns of Afitos and Hanioti in Halkidikiwith quiet beaches, rugged landscape and turquoise waters; on Crete, Elounda on the eastern coast and the historic Rethymnon on the northern; the new resorts on Skiathosare Aghia Paraskevi, Koukounaries and Skiathos Town where the pace is slow, the tavernas welcoming and the waters crystal clear. Price from £359 for a week’s self catering and private transfers.

In Italy, we’ve expanded the portfolio to include Sicily centring on the elegant resort of Taormina. Famous for its Greek amphitheatre with views over the bay and Giardini Naxos. It’s an ideal base from which to explore the rich cultural heritage to be found across the island.

The ‘Emerald Coast’ in Sardinia, not only a playground for the rich and famous, but also home to the beach destinations of Porto Cervo, Baia Sardinia and Cannigione is also new to Crystal Summer. The coastline is full of white sandy beaches, idyllic remote bays and unique granite rock formations. The villages offer everything from quaint, traditional trattorias to world-class, luxury marinas. Price from £679 for a week’s half board and car hire included.

In Croatia, we’ve added the coastal town of Poreč with numerous historical sites to visit, beaches to discover and boat trips to enjoy.

Also new are:

-         Italy, Greece and Montenegro Cruise on MSC Armonia

-         Three more all-inclusive hotels in Kaprun, Austria and in Poreč, Croatia

-         Short breaks to Italy and the Algarve

-         15 Finest hotels: luxury 4 or 5 star hotels in prime locations, excellent restaurants and first-rate  service

-         Five additional ‘Discovery’ packages

Customer research focussed on experienced travellers and the core needs were distilled into the following:

-         balance of culture and relaxation, variety of beach and activity;

-         indulge and enjoy good food, beautiful places and nice surroundings;

-         escape the 9-5;

-         space to relax;

-         exploring and discovering local culture.

Many felt that these needs were not being adequately met by the traditional holiday package. Although most people recognised the value of those holidays there were some negative connotations around the concept, the way in which it is delivered and even in the word ‘package’.

The research led to a thorough review of Crystal Summer and as a result our holidays have now been designed to offer  a wider mix of destinations that meets the core needs as well as flexible options through a mixture of scheduled and charter flights as well as car hire options and private transfers in selected destinations.

Simon Cross, managing director Crystal said: “Crystal now seeks to offer a more personalised experience, accommodation in smaller, boutique hotels, villas and apartments with a range of board options to allow customers the freedom to be spontaneous, to explore and choose for themselves how they spend their time and money. The holidays are primarily focussed on the adult market and designed to suit a sophisticated, cultured and adventurous holidaymaker.”

Starting price for Crystal Summer 2012 is £345 for seven nights’ b & b at the three-star Doria Apartments in Garda on Lake Garda, Italy, departing on 5 May 2012 from Gatwick inclusive of transfers.
