If you are looking for a revitalising holiday in the lakes and mountains regions of Europe and like the freedom to explore independently, consider the new Crystal 2008 Lakes & Mountains brochure. Look out for the new ‘Globetrotter’ logo which identifies those resorts where we provide an extended welcome pack with lots of useful information about the area, a free walking map and, in some resorts, a summer card for discounted or free travel as well as entrance to attractions.

One of the new resorts is Kuhmo on Lake Lammasjarvi in Finland, known in music circles for its annual Chamber Music Festival. In 2008, the festival will concentrate on the history of string quartets and on music written for kings and queens. But there is more to Kuhmo: national parks for endless canoeing and hiking trips, fly fishing, observing wild animals in their natural habitat and, for the more adventurous, floating on river rapids, quad biking and husky sledding.

Also new is Konstanz on Lake Constance in Germany, an ideal base from which to explore the region by boat, bike, train, foot or car. Places to visit are the islands of Mainau (car free ‘flower island’) and Reichenau (UNESCO world heritage site); the Zeppelin Museum in Friedrichshafen; the Open Air Museum in Unteruhldingen (Stone and Bronze Age exhibits) and baroque Meersburg, built on a steep vineyard on the north shore of the lake.

We have added pre-bookable activities ranging from an afternoon of rock climbing to a day of exploring the mountains on horse back and from soaring above the scenery by paraglider to a relaxing yoga session. There are also family focused activities such as Pirate River Rafting and Family Climbing in Kaprun whilst in the new resort of Kirchdorf you can pre-book a package of activities, choosing from a Family Adventure, a River Adventure and the Ultimate Adventure (package prices from £47 per adult).

Most of the resorts in the new brochure are ideal walking bases and for the many of these we will provide free walking maps, delivered to your home before your walking holiday.

Many of our summer resorts are also open in winter with a wealth of activities on offer, and we have introduced ‘Winter Wonderland’ holidays in the new brochure to be taken during winter time. Have a horse-drawn or reindeer sleigh ride, try snowshoeing, ice-curling, drive a snow mobile or maybe visit a Christmas Market.

If you love sightseeing, exploring open countryside and being active, then our new ‘Taste of Active Austria’ package gives you the choice of a lake and mountain resort plus a chance to spend three days in Salzburg city – all in a week.

Starting price for summer 2008 is £305 per person for seven nights’ bed & breakfast in the Hotel Europa in Garda on Lake Garda, Italy, departing on 30th April 2008 from Gatwick inclusive of transfers.
