If you are looking for a revitalising holiday in the lakes and mountains regions of Europe and like the freedom to explore independently, consider the new Crystal 2009 Lakes & Mountains brochure launched today.
One of the new resorts is Chamonix in France, a year-round holiday town famed for its spectacular views up to Mont Blanc (unless cloudy!), the Aiguille du Midi and the shimmering Glacier des Bossons. A trip on the cable car up to the Aiguille du Midi at 12,000 ft is a must, offering panoramic views of the French, Italian and Swiss Alps.
Ischgl is our new resort in Austria and we offer free guided walking weeks with a local English speaking walking guide on selected dates throughout the summer. All Crystal customers staying in Ischgl will receive a free Silvretta Card giving free access to all summer lifts, entrance to indoor/outdoor swimming pools and local museums, use of public transport and an activity programme for children.
Also new is Gardaland Italy’s biggest theme park on Lake Garda in Italy. The Gardaland Hotel Resort, a superb 4 star hotel just 800m from Gardaland theme park offers family rooms, excellent leisure facilities including outdoor pools with a baby pool and waterfalls and large gardens with sunbathing area, children’s games room and video games. Gardaland Hotel Resort is priced from £515 per adult and free child places for 3 nights’ half board, flights and transfers.
Lake Garda in Italy is also one of the settings for the new James Bond film ‘Quantum of Solace’ released in the UK on 31st October 2008. The towns of Limone, Torbole, and Malcesine are the backdrop of the film. The twisting lakeside road called the Gardesana winds its way between Tremosine and Limone, forming the gorge that Winston Churchill called the eighth wonder of the world, and onwards to the Gargnano tunnel and the Cape of Storms. This amazing route was used for the chase of James Bond’s famous Aston Martin.
Another addition for 2009 is Madeira with the capital of the island Funchal and the tiny village Prazeres. Funchal on the southern coast, a bustling town with pavement cafes and shops features high quality accommodation. The Hotel Jardim Atlantico near Prazeres, a cliff top location, is perfect for walking enthusiasts. Madeira is a scenic island and walking along the vast network of Levadas, 15th century irrigation channels, is particularly recommended.
There are also two new walking tours in Austria: the Eagle Walk, a self-guided walking tour along the European long distance walk Adlerweg (eagle trail) which crosses the Austrian Tyrol from west to east. Five nights are spent at the four-star Hotel Schlick by idyllic Lake Walchsee and two nights in an Alpine hut. Every walker receives a pair of original Tirolean hiking poles as a present!
The new ‘Six Peaks’ Walk is a five days guided walking tour on the majestic mountains of the Wilder Kaiser, Chiemgau Alps and Zahmer Kaiser as well as sections of the Adlerweg combined with four-star hotel comfort by Lake Walchsee and an overnight stay in an alpine hut.
Most of the resorts in the new brochure are ideal walking bases and for the many of these we will provide free walking maps, delivered to your home before your walking holiday.
Look out for the ‘Globetrotter’ logo which identifies those resorts where we provide an extended welcome pack with lots of useful information about the area, a free walking map and, in some resorts, a summer card for discounted or free travel as well as entrance to attractions.
The new rail tour, the Golden Pass Tour with vintage Orient Express carriages is a ten or eleven nights independent train tour taking in three of Switzerland’s lakes: Lake Lucerne, Lake Interlaken and Lake Geneva. After a few days in historic Lucerne, the train journey begins with the panoramic train across the Brünig Pass to Interlaken and perhaps a visit up the Jungfraujoch mountain railway before the spectacular train journey on to Montreux. Between Montreux and Zweisimmen the highlight is the ‘Golden Pass Classic’ train with its vintage Orient Express carriages.
