March News from the Austrian Tirol

March is a great time to ski in Tirol. After the recent snowfalls, up to 40cm in St Anton, conditions are looking excellent across the region. Take a look at this recent footage of the snow in Innsbruck to whet your appetite.

Right now there are some fabulous skiing and snowboarding packages available and many of the resorts have special deals on family skiing and late season skiing. It is almost party time too, big name resorts such as Mayrhofen and Ischgl are renowned for their late season party scene.

See below for a taste of what is on offer.

TIROL FOR FAMILIES

There are plenty of resorts in Tirol that are perfect for families, eg Seefeld, Obergurgl, Alpbach and Niederau. Here are a few of the best regional offers:

In Alpbach (and the whole Alpbachtal region) from 19 March – 20 April children up 15yrs ski for free.

Stay at the 4* Hotel Alphof, half board, from £389 pp (save £170) departing 26 March including flights and transfers (flights from Birmingham, Edinburgh, Gatwick, Manchester and Newcastle to Innsbruck) .Crystal Ski – www.crystalski.co.uk 0871 231 2256

TIROL FOR MOUNTAIN PARTIES AND EVENTS

For the 1st time the Freeride World Tour hits Austria – from next weekend (12 March) Fieberbrunn sees the Big Mountain Freeride Festival in the resort as it hosts the 5th stop on the Freeride World Tour. Catch the best male freeride skiers and riders in action as they try and qualify for the finals.

Easter is very late this year – 24 April, but lots of resorts in Tirol will be skiing until this date e.g. Obergurgl, Mayrhofen, St Anton, Sölden, Ischgl, Albach, Kitzbühel so there is still plenty of time to book your winter skiing and snowboarding holiday. Many resorts have fantastic closing parties with one of the most popular in the area being the end of season concert in Ischgl, this year featuring ‘The Killers’ on 30 April. www.ischgl.com

Before this, Snowbombing is back in Mayrhofen from the 4 – 9 April. This weekend offers top skiing and snowboarding combined with an incredible music line-up: The Prodigy, Fat Boy Slim and the Cuban Brothers. New to Mayrhofen is the Altitude Comedy Festival featuring Andrew Maxwell and Marcus Brigstocke as well as a whole host of other comedians.

Stay in a 2* Guesthouse, B&B in Mayrhofen from £189 (save £210) departing 26 March including flights and transfers (flights from Birmingham, Edinburgh, Gatwick, Manchester and Newcastle to Innsbruck). First Choice Ski www.firstchoice-ski.co.uk 0871 664 0130
